#TrasnanadTonnta and Comhrá Join Forces to Celebrate Irish Language Worldwide

Join the worldwide conversation online from October 21st to 25th!

Conradh na Gaeilge and the Ireland Canada University Foundation (ICUF) are thrilled to announce the collaboration of two major Irish language campaigns—#TrasnanadTonnta and Comhrá—for a global celebration of the Irish language from October 21st to 25th. This exciting partnership promises to be a powerful event for Irish speakers of all abilities, both at home and abroad.

#TrasnanadTonnta is an online international campaign that encourages people to express themselves in Irish across social media, connecting speakers from around the world. By joining forces with Comhrá, an ongoing online Irish conversation that has brought communities, schools, GAA clubs, radio stations, and more together since 2013, this year’s event will be a truly global celebration of the Irish language.

Participants can look forward to a wide variety of online events, competitions, and opportunities to connect with Irish speakers from across the globe. Whether you're a fluent speaker or just beginning your journey with the language, #TrasnanadTonnta offers a welcoming space to celebrate and share your love of Irish.

Everyone is encouraged to take part, whether by sharing posts on social media in Irish, participating in events, or engaging in the conversation. This collaborative effort highlights the strength of the Irish language community worldwide and the importance of celebrating our language and culture.

Paula Melvin, President of Conradh na Gaeilge said:

“The coming together of Comhrá and #TrasnanadTonnta this year gives branches and members of Conradh na Gaeilge around the world the opportunity to share their story about the Irish language. I greatly commend the groups across the island and around the world who work every day to promote the Irish language. I hope they will all have the opportunity to take part in #TrasnanadTonnta this year."

Speaking about the campaign, Orlaith Nic Ghearailt of Conradh na Gaeilge commented:

“We are delighted to see #TrasnanadTonnta and Comhrá coming together this year, uniting Irish speakers from all over the world. This collaboration creates a unique opportunity for people to engage with the language in creative ways and celebrate the vibrancy of the Irish language community.”

James Kelly, Chief Executive Officer of ICUF, said:

“ICUF are delighted to be working with Conradh na Gaeilge on #TrasnanadTonnta this year. The online campaign will celebrate the Irish language both in Ireland and all over the world. No matter what level of Irish you have, we hope everyone will use their Gaeilge online and share their stories during #TrasnanadTonnta."
