Redevelopment of No.6 Harcourt is on the way.

'When you reach the top of the mountain the view is worth the climb'. Redevelopment of No.6 Harcourt is on the way.
Working towards an Irish Language Centre in the heart of the city, offering more services and facilities than ever, which is set to open to the public within the next three years.

The development of No. 6 Harcourt Street is set to begin by the end of September 2024, with hopes that the Irish Language Centre will be redeveloped within 3 years. In the meantime Conradh na Gaeilge, An Siopa Leabhar, Oireachtas na Gaeilge, Baile Átha le Gaeilge, Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia, Raidió Rí-Rá and other groups located in Number 6 will operate from other locations in the city which are currently being arranged. Club Chonradh na Gaeilge will also be relocating during the development period, but will continue to host regular 'Pop-Up' nights over the next three years.

Paula Melvin, President of Conradh na Gaeilge said:

It's hard to believe that the time has come to leave No. 6 for a short period of time to develop the centre after talking about this for the past 20 years. All the groups based in the house will face challenges, and we recognise that those from the public who use No. 6 may experience difficulties over the next three years. However, we are confident that the long-term benefits will outweigh the challenges. 'When you reach the top of the mountain, the view is worth the climb'. The Irish-speaking community in the city will be much better served once this development is complete. We deeply appreciate our partnership with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media, as well as the Office of Public Works, who have been crucial in bringing this development to fruition."

Julian de Spáinn, General Secretary of Conradh na Gaeilge said:

"We are excited that we are now at the stage where we can start this great development, a groundbreaking project aimed at expanding Irish language services and facilities available to the public in the city. No.6 will feature new facilities including a café, a multi-purpose centre, a theatre, and other amenities that will complement the existing services. Furthermore, we will collaborate with various stakeholders from Harcourt Street, Camden Street, Synge Street, and beyond to develop the Irish Quarter in Dublin while the work at No.6 progresses."
