Local elections and elections to the European Parliament take place on Friday, 7 June 2024.
Conradh na Gaeilge are asking the public to consider the #GaelVóta when voting in these upcoming elections.
A wide range of candidates for the European Parliament and most political parties putting candidates forward in the local elections have made promises to support the Irish language and the Gaeltacht should they be elected. Further info below:
Regina Doherty, Fine Gael:
"Regina commends Conradh na Gaeilge for its ongoing and important work in promoting and advocating for the Irish language and Irish speakers. Regina's record shows her commitment to the Irish language. Throughout her career, Regina has been proud to support initiatives to support and develop the Irish language and she hopes to continue to do this in the European Parliament should she be elected as an MEP for the coming term. She also believes in the importance of people speaking the language no matter their level and will incorporate this into her work in the Parliament. On the issue of the Irish language interpretation in the Parliament, she commends the work to date of Irish MEPs such as Seán Kelly, and hopes to add to this support in the coming term."
