Dáithí Mac Cárthaigh, President of Conradh na Gaeilge, praised POBAL for all their hard work in preparing a draft Irish language Act for the Six Counties and stated that Conradh na Gaeilge would continue in its support and co-operation with POBAL until such an Act was made law.
Speaking at Conradh na Gaeilge's Ard-Fheis Mac Cárthaigh, who is a Seanad Éireann candidate on the NUI panel, said:
"The North is the only jurisdiction in this Western European Archipelago in which the native language has no statutory protection. If the growth of the language is to continue in the North it is necessary that the Irish language has statutory protection to ensure services through the medium of Irish, secure the language's place in the education system and normalise the use of Irish in public life.
"We whole heartedly support POBAL's draft Act and the campaign that it be made law."
