Could You Speak as Gaeilge for 24 Hours? 25,000 Students Gear Up for Irish-Speaking Challenge Tomorrow

Posted in General.

25,000+ students from 260 schools are taking part in Conradh na Gaeilge’s #Gaeilge24 on Tuesday 12th of November

Tomorrow, 12 November, Conradh na Gaeilge will lead an inspiring initiative with 25,000 students from 250 schools in 32 counties, challenging them to speak only Irish for 24 hours in the #Gaeilge24 campaign. The event aims to immerse young people in Irish, encouraging them to use the language in all aspects of their lives for a full day.

Students participating in Gaeilge24 are encouraged to speak Irish at school, at home, in shops, with local businesses, friends, and even at sports clubs. This immersion experience brings Irish outside the classroom and into the everyday world, fostering confidence and enthusiasm for using the language in real-life situations.

Speaking on the event, Paula Melvin, Uachtarán Chonradh na Gaeilge said:

“This is the twelfth year of this unique campaign, and Gaeilge24 continues to go from strength to strength. A positive attitude toward the language is awakened in young people in a fun and relevant way through taking part in Gaeilge24. They are given the opportunity to have a positive experience and to promote Irish in their own lives. If we are serious about encouraging Irish among the youth, we must continuously create speaking opportunities both inside and outside of schools.”

English-speaking, Irish-speaking and Gaeltacht primary and secondary schools across Ireland will be taking part in this year’s challenge, and certificates will be presented to all participating students.

Speaking about his experience with Gaeilge24 over the years, Aodhán Ó Deá, Director of Development with Conradh na Gaeilge said:

“Gaeilge24 has come a long way in its  twelve years, growing stronger with each campaign. This year, we’re thrilled to see an incredible 25,000 students from every corner of the island joining us. We’ve sent thousands of support packs to schools across the country, providing everything they need to embrace Irish for the day,”

Helen Bolton-Lee, a teacher at Gorey Educate Together Secondary School said:

“We really look forward to Gaeilge24 every year at Gorey ETSS. It’s a fun-filled day in our school, and both students and teachers enjoy taking part and spreading Irish around the school. This annual event is very important to us in our calendar.”

The Irish language community around the world can take part online by using the hashtag #Gaeilge24 on social media.

[DÉ LUAIN 11 SAMHAIN]

An bhFéadfá Labhairt as Gaeilge ar feadh 24 Uair an Chloig? 25,000 Dalta ag

Ullmhú do ‘Gaeilge24’ Amárach

25,000+ dalta ó 260 scoil ag glacadh páirte in #Gaeilge24 le Conradh na Gaeilge Dé Máirt, 12 Samhain

Amárach, 12 Samhain, stiúrfaidh Conradh na Gaeilge an dúshlán spreagúil seo le 25,000 dalta ó 250 scoil i 32 contae, ag tabhairt dúshlán dóibh Gaeilge amháin a labhairt ar feadh 24 uair san fheachtas #Gaeilge24. Tá sé mar aidhm ag an ócáid daoine óga a thumadh sa Ghaeilge, iad a spreagadh chun an teanga a úsáid i ngach gné dá saol ar feadh lá iomlán.

Spreagtar scoláirí a ghlacann páirt sa dúshlán an Ghaeilge a labhairt ar scoil, sa bhaile, sna siopaí, le gnólachtaí áitiúla, le cairde, agus fiú ag clubanna spóirt. Tugann an taithí thumoideachais seo an Ghaeilge lasmuigh den seomra ranga agus isteach sa saol laethúil, ag cothú muiníne agus díograise in úsáid na teanga san fhíorshaol.

Ag labhairt faoin lá, dúirt Paula Melvin, Uachtarán Chonradh na Gaeilge:

“Músclaítear meon dearfach i ndaoine óga i leith na teanga ar bhealach spraíúil agus ábhartha trí Ghaeilge24 a dhéanamh. Tugtar deis dóibh eispéireas dearfach a bheith acu agus an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn ina saoil féin. Má tá muid dáirire faoin Ghaeilge a spreagadh i measc an aosa óig, caithfidh muid deiseanna labhartha laistigh agus lasmuigh de scoileanna a chrúthú go leanúnach..”

Beidh idir bhunscoileanna agus mheánscoileanna Béarla, Gaeilge agus Gaeltachta ó cheann ceann na hÉireann ag glacadh páirte i ndúshlán na bliana seo, agus beidh teastas ar fáil do gach dalta a ghlacann páirt ann.

Ag tagairt dá thaithí le Gaeilge24 thar na blianta, dúirt Aodhán Ó Deá, Stiúrthóir Forbartha agus Leas-Ardrúnaí Chonradh na Gaeilge:

"Is í seo an dara bhliain déag den fheachtas uathúil seo i mbliana. Tá lúcháir orainn i gConradh na Gaeilge 25,000 dalta ó gach cearn den oileán a fheiceáil ag glacadh páirte. Tá na mílte pacáiste tacaíochta seolta againn chuig scoileanna ar fud na tíre, ag soláthar gach rud a theastaíonn uathu chun an Ghaeilge a chuimsiú don lá."

Dúirt Helen Bolton-Lee, múinteoir ag Méanscoil Foghlaim Le Chéile i nGuaire:

“Bímid ag tnúth go mór le Gaeilge24 gach bhliain i Gorey ETSS. Is lá lán le spraoi é inár scoil agus baineann na daltaí agus na múinteoirí an-sult as páirt a ghlacadh agus Gaeilge a scapadh timpeall na scoile. Tá an imeacht bliantúil seo an-tábhachtach dúinn inár bhféilire.”

Bíonn deis ag pobal na Gaeilge ar fud an domhain páirt a ghlacadh sa dúshlán ar líne tríd an haischlib #Gaeilge24 a úsáid ar na meáin shóisialta.
