Final Judgement of Judicial Review against NI Executive Over Failure to Adopt Irish-Language Strategy in High-Court

Court Case against the ExecutiveFinal Judgement of Conradh na Gaeilge Judicial Review against NI Executive over failure to adopt Irish language Strategy in High-Court

Date:   Friday, 3 March 2017
Time:   10.00am
Venue:  High Court, Chichester Street, Belfast, BT13JF

The High Court in Belfast (10.00am 3/3/2017) will hear the final Judgement on the Judicial Review taken by Conradh na Gaeilge in the case against the NI Executive regarding their failure to adopt an Irish-language strategy as was agreed in St Andrew’s Agreement (2006) and their programme for Government 2011-2015, alongside the Executive’s failure to comply with its duty pursuant to section 28d of the NI Act 1998.

The timing of this judgement, the morning of the Assembly Election results, is increasingly interesting, given the widespread prominence of the Irish-language in the build-up to the election.

‘Application for Leave’ for the case was granted to Conradh na Gaeilge in May 2016 and the case was heard in full in the Belfast High Court on 8th February 2017.
