Conradh na Gaeilge Gathers Gaeilgeoirí On Árainn Mhór For Tionól Gaeltachta 2013

A boat trip to the small scenic islands off the coast of Árainn Mhór will be one of the highlights of this year's Tionól Gaeltachta - Conradh na Gaeilge's annual Irish-language holiday - on Ireland's second largest populated island, Arranmore Island, Co. Donegal, from 4 - 7 July 2013.

Whether you speak Irish fluently, are a little rusty, or even if you're a complete newcomer to Irish, Tionól Gaeltachta Chonradh na Gaeilge 2013 will immerse you and all the family in the language in a fun, sociable way with a programme of events to suit everyone looking to enjoy the delights of Donegal as Gaeilge.

Peadar Mac Fhlannchadha, National Organiser for Conradh na Gaeilge says: "Donegal boasts Ireland's largest Gaeltacht region, and holidaying out in the Atlantic Ocean on Árainn Mhór as part of Tionól Gaeltachta Chonradh na Gaeilge 2013 will be a wonderfully unique and enjoyable experience for anyone looking to brush up on their cúpla focal this summer, and at a great price too!"

Conradh na Gaeilge is offering a special low-price package for only €240 to include bed & breakfast from Thursday - Sunday, evening meals, a day trip to An tÍochtar / Eighter Island, Inis Cú, Inis Doirn and Inis Chaorach, as well as a public seminar, a dramatic performance, and all social events. Tionól Gaeltachta Chonradh na Gaeilge 2013 has been organised in association with Comharchumann Oileán Árainn Mhóir with support from Údarás na Gaeltachta, and you can register for the weekend at www.cnag.ie/siopa.

This year's annual holiday will be particularly unique as Tionól Gaeltachta Chonradh na Gaeilge 2013 is looking to give holiday-makers from abroad a special welcome as part of both The Gathering Ireland initiative and Bliain na Gaeilge 2013, a year of festivities celebrating the Irish language and 120 years since the founding of Conradh na Gaeilge in 1893.

The ferry from Ailt an Chorráin / Burtonport, Co. Donegal, will take Tionól participants out to Árainn Mhór on Thursday evening (4 July 2013) where a reception in Óstán an Ghleanna at 9.00pm will kickstart a weekend of music, discussion, entertainment and adventure.

The tone of Conradh na Gaeilge's Seimineár an Tionóil at 8.00pm Friday night (5 July 2013) will be slightly more serious, focusing on the current state of language planning in Gaeltacht and the implementation of the Gaeltacht Act of 2012. Anna Ní Ghallachair, Chairperson of the Board of Údarás na Gaeltachta, will be a guest speaker at the seminar and both the public and attendees of An Tionól Gaeltachta are welcome on the night.

With its promontory fort dating from about 800BC still standing atop its cliff top perch at Uilinn, Árainn Mhór has evidence of being inhabited since prehistoric times, and local islander Proinsias Mac a'Bhaird will give Tionól Gaeltachta visitors a guided tour from the island's sandy beaches to its rocky summit and lighthouse on the west side of Oileán Árainn Mhóir on Saturday afternoon (6 July 2013), before the hotly-contested Tionól table quiz in Óstán an Ghleanna at 4.00pm and Aisteoirí an Lóchrainn's drama at 8.00pm Saturday night.
