Two Weeks Left to Apply to €40,000 Fund for Community Groups

Conradh na Gaeilge makes its largest support fund ever available for Seachtain na Gaeilge 2016 community events and campaigns

Lógó Ciste Tacaíochta2 RPCommunity groups have two weeks left to apply to the largest support fund ever launched by Conradh na Gaeilge, thanks to the Community Foundation for Ireland granting €40,000 to Seachtain na Gaeilge this year. Grants of between €500 and €2,500 are available to groups organising community events and campaigns in Ireland for the 2016 festival through the Seachtain na Gaeilge 2016 Support Fund.

More information and the application form for the Support Fund is available at www.snag.ie/ciste and groups have until Monday, 1 February 2016, to apply for grants to run Seachtain na Gaeilge events and campaigns during the festival from 1 – 17 March 2016. Conradh na Gaeilge will announce the results shortly after this date and the grants will be paid to successful applicants by Friday, 19 February 2016.

Brenda Ní Ghairbhí, Seachtain na Gaeilge Manager said:

“There hasn’t ever been such generous funding made available for the Seachtain na Gaeilge fund before, so it’s an amazing opportunity for community groups to organise a special event or campaign for the 2016 festival that they may not have had the resources to organise in previous years.

“The application process is as easy and the form as user-friendly as possible, and we hope that the Seachtain na Gaeilge fund will make a real difference to community groups promoting the Irish language in their local areas.”

NOTE FOR THE EDITOR:

Applications to the Seachtain na Gaeilge 2016 Support Fund will be assessed based on the event/campaign plan; relevant experience of the organisers; how the event/campaign will promote the Irish language; event/campaign budget; and links to Irish culture and history, including the 1916 commemorations.

Seachtain na Gaeilge is an international festival which runs in March every year to promote the Irish language and culture in Ireland and abroad. Conradh na Gaeilge set up the festival in 1902. The festival has gained a lot of momentum in recent years and is now one of the biggest celebrations of our native language and culture each year. Seachtain na Gaeilge gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy Irish, whether you are a native speaker, learner or have a cúpla focal.  Community groups, schools, local authorities, libraries, cultural, sport and music organisations and more register events with Seachtain na Gaeilge each year. This year’s festival will run from 1 - 17 March 2016. Foras na Gaeilge is the primary funder of Seachtain na Gaeilge. More information: www.snag.ie

Conradh na Gaeilge is the democratic forum for the Irish-speaking community, and its main aim is to promote the use of Irish as the standard language in Ireland. The organisation works on behalf of the Irish language and the people who use it throughout the island of Ireland and around the world. There are almost 180 branches of Conradh na Gaeilge and it is also possible to register as an individual member. Since the establishment of Conradh na Gaeilge on the 31st July of 1893, its members have been active in promoting the Irish language in every aspect of life in Ireland – from legal matters and education issues, to developments in the media and Irish language services. Conraitheoirí are at the forefront of campaigns to secure and strengthen the rights of the Irish-language community, and all members of Conradh na Gaeilge work hard to develop the use of Irish in their own areas. Conradh na Gaeilge runs Irish-language courses in Dublin, Ennis, Galway, Limerick, Mayo, Newry, Tipperary, and elsewhere across Ireland. More information: www.cnag.ie/courses

The Community Foundation for Ireland was established in 2000 with the intention of helping to grow a philanthropic ethos within Ireland and building a perpetual fund to support charitable causes and communities in Ireland and overseas. In 1998, a paper discussing the establishment of a community foundation was produced on behalf of Combat Poverty. This led the Government to issue a challenge to the private sector to establish a community foundation. Founded by businesses, NGOs and employer organisations, the Government issued a challenge grant of £1 million which helped kick start The Foundation’s endowed fund. This endowed fund has grown to exceed €40 million today through the support of donors to The Community Foundation for Ireland. By the end of 2015, cumulative grant-making from the Foundation to charities in Ireland reached €25 million. More information: www.foundation.ie
