The Conradh Says YES to POBAL Parade

There will be a celebratory parade promoting diversity and the Irish language in Belfast on Saturday the 16th February as part of the TÁ campaign and Conradh na Gaeilge are organising a free bus there from Dublin. The bus will leave from the Conradh's Head Office, 6 Harcourt Street, Dublin 2 ag 10am and will return later that afternoon.

Julian de Spáinn, General Secretary for Conradh na Gaeilge, said: "It is vitally important to show our support for this parade as part of the efforts to bring about an Irish Language Act for Northern Ireland.

At a time when Irish is being attacked within the education sector and regarding interpretation facilities in the EU, it is only right that we seize the opportunity to rally around Irish speakers in the North and take a stand for the language."

The Conradh's new Development Executive, Síne Nic an Ailí said: "There are buses leaving from across the country and it is obvious that people want to come together to prove our national language is worth it and that Irish has their wholehearted support.

The Irish language is being celebrated as an integral part of Ireland's new multiculturalism at the parade and POBAL, the umbrella organisation for the Irish-speaking community in the North, are to be highly commended for bringing Irish organisations together with different ethnic groups to promote this multiculturalism as a joint venture.

The Conradh, POBAL and all the groups involved in this parade are working together to stress the importance of cooperation and fostering cultural collaborations in Ireland."

The celebratory parade will leave the McAdam Ó Fiach Cultúrlann at one o'clock and there will be drama workshops, storytelling, ethnic language workshops, face-painting and Indian henna handpainting, as well as Indian head massages, a world food fair and an abundance of music.

Conradh na Gaeilge is encouraging anyone with an interest in Irish and multiculturalism to support the language and come to partake in the parade. Seats on the bus need to be booked beforehand by contacting Síne in the Ard-Oifig on 01 4757401 or at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
