Minister of State and Government Chief-Whip Jack Chambers, TD, launched an extensive programme of Irish language community events with support from an Ciste Spreagtha last night, Thursday 26th May, and reopened the refurbished studio in Raidió Rí-Rá, the national Irish Language radio station for young people, in Dublin on the same night.
Jamie Ó Flannúra, Manager of Raidió Rí-Rá said:
“We in Raidió Rí-Rá, the national Irish-Language radio station for young people, are delighted with the development of our studio in Dublin. These developments will enable us to increase the number of live shows broadcast on Raidió Rí-Rá and more presenters will be able to engage with the station from now on. We’re especially grateful to the Minister of State and Government for Chief-Whip Jack Chambers, TD for providing the funding for the station. This development strengthens our case for the national Irish-Language radio station for young people to be broadcasting on FM full-time”
Minister of State and Government Chief Whip, Jack Chambers, TD said:
“I am extremely proud that many Irish-Language events are going to be held across the country with the support of the Ciste Spreagtha. Community groups faced a number of difficulties during the pandemic and I hope this funding will give the Irish-language community a boost in their organisation of these events. I’m extremely happy to be able to assist with projects such as these, which have Irish at their core, and I am looking forward to attending some of the events.
I am also delighted to have been able to fund the development of the Raidió Rí-Rá studio in Dublin. The station will be able to cater more for young people and give them the opportunity to listen to an Irish language radio service aimed entirely at this age group.”
Orlaith Nic Ghearailt Manager of Seachtain na Gaeilge said:
“An Ciste Spreagtha is providing funding to 150 Irish-Language and Gaeltacht groups to organise community events. A wide variety of events are being organised between now and the end of June, and there is something suitable for every age and every level of Irish. I want to congratulate and commend the groups who are undertaking this work to inspire the use of Irish in the community, especially after the pandemic. I hope people all over the country will take this opportunity to attend the events in their locality. We are grateful to the Minister of State Jack Chambers for launching the programme of events of an Ciste Spreagtha and for generously providing this funding.”

Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia are currently managing the Ciste Spreagtha, following on from their celebration of 120 years of the festival in 2022, and the Ciste Spreagtha and the development of the Raidió Rí-Rá studio are funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
