“Ciste Spreagtha” announced to spark Irish language events in the community now that the pandemic restrictions have been reduced

Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia will administer this fund, to continue its celebration of the 120th Anniversary of the festival in 2022. The ‘Ciste Spreagadh’ is funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

Paula Melvin, President of Conradh na Gaeilge said:

“We are very grateful to Minister of State Jack Chambers and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media for providing generous funding to Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia to encourage the use of Irish in the community after a few difficult years due to Covid restrictions on events. This fund will encourage community groups inside and outside the Gaeltacht to organise community events again now that the pandemic constraints have been reduced. Groups will have an opportunity during Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia 2022, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary, to apply for funding to organise major events in their communities”.

Minister of State and Government Chief Whip, Jack Chambers, TD said:

“The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and the Media is delighted to provide this funding to Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia to encourage the Irish language community to organise events again and to attract new people to the language during Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia and in the coming weeks and months. I understand that the pandemic has been challenging but we now have an opportunity to look ahead and provide a fun and wide-ranging programme of events for the community with the Irish language at the heart of it. At the same time we will also celebrate the 120th anniversary of Seachtain na Gaeilge.”

Orlaith Nic Ghearailt, Manager of Seachtain na Gaeilge said:

“We hope that the ‘Ciste Spreagtha’ will greatly encourage people from the Irish language and Gaeltacht community to attend community events again. In addition there will also be a particular emphasis on attracting people who did not take part in online events during the pandemic due to technology and other difficulties and also attract people from different backgrounds who do not normally take part in Irish language events. This support fund is also a great way to encourage groups who take part in Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia, to continue organising Irish language or bilingual events after the festival.”

The ‘Ciste Spreagtha’ is only open to community groups in the 26 southern counties and you can apply and / or get more details at: https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.snag.ie/cs&source=gmail&ust=1646899314743000&usg=AOvVaw0yj-i2DHZmiJqvwvcCpuKD">www.snag.ie/cs.
