Conradh na Gaeilge are asking the Department of the Gaeltacht and Údarás na Gaeltachta to meet immediately with the local community to initiate a process to attract other industries to the area and to protect employment. If such a move is not made it will lead to further decimation of the Gaeltacht.
Peadar Mac Fhlannchadha, Advocacy Manager with Conradh na Gaeilge, said: "As a matter of urgency Conradh na Gaeilge are calling on the Minister for the Gaeltacht to launch an investigation to find out the reasons for the move. Central to this investigation must be the issue if another state employment agency was involved in the relocation.
It must also be established what is the position of the substantial investment already made by Údarás na Gaeltachta in this factory and if any of that investment can be recouped.
This development is an further example of the need to finance and implement an investment program for the Gaeltacht."
