CEOL 2018 le hEoghan McDermott, a compilation of some of the biggest songs of this year recorded by their original artists as Gaeilge, arrive in every school in the country from this morning, Wednesday 26th of September, as part of Bliain na Gaeilge.

Every primary school is receiving a copy of the album and 350,000 copies of the album will be delivered to second level students throughout the country. Participation in the launch of the album is being encouraged with a competition for the best photographs shared with the hashtag #CEOL2018.  Tickets to a Picture Thisshow, plus a meet and greet, are up for grabs for the winners.

Saoirse Ronan and Macklemore open the album with a powerful spoken word tribute to the Irish language. This tribute is accompanied by a stunning animated video which will be released by RTÉ 2FM this morning on social media. The album features hits by Picture This, JP Cooper, John Gibbons with Soulé and many more.

Saoirse Ronan, Irish actress, who spoke on the opening track of the album said;
“I’m not a native speaker of Irish, nor did I grow up speaking it daily. And yet I, like most Irish people have a deep love and understanding of how powerfully it enriches our culture and our sense of what it means to be Irish. I’m delighted to contribute my voice alongside Macklemore, who I know wears his Irish roots on his sleeve loud and proud around the world. I’m also delighted, as part of Bliain na Gaeilge, that every secondary student in the country will receive a copy of some of the best of Irish and international music in our native tongue. Beir bua. Le grá, Saoirse.”

Eoghan McDermott, RTÉ 2FM presenter said:
“The day is finally here and I am so proud that we are going to give 350,000 copies of this fantastic album to second level school students and every school in the country. Go to RTÉ 2FM’s Facebook page later today to check out a beautiful and inspiring animation that was made especially for Saoirse Ronan and Macklemore’s welcome to CEOL 2018. It’s definitely worth a watch.”

CEOL 2018 has been compiled by Conradh na Gaeilge and Raidió Rí-Rá in conjunction with RTÉ 2FM as part of Bliain na Gaeilge. The album will be made available on CD and via digital download.
