On 23 January 2025, Conradh na Gaeilge, TINTEÁN, BÁNÚ and the Meitheal Náisiúnta Pleanála Teanga submitted a petition to the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament.
‘The objective of the petitions process in the European Parliament is to ensure that you have the opportunity to communicate with Parliament and express your right to petition, which is one of the fundamental rights of all European citizens and residents, enshrined both in the Treaty and in the Charter of Fundamental Rights.’ - European Parliament
In April, the petition was declared admissible and we now have a hearing before the Committee in the European Parliament in Brussels on the 15 May. The petition now is available to view publicly on the Committee website, and members of the public can support it.
Widespread public support for the petition will greatly help to strengthen our case when we present before the Committee. You can support the petition here:
You must create an account to support the petition. The names of people who support the petition are not public.
There is more information about the Petitions Committee and the process available here.
We are grateful to Cynthia Ní Mhurchú MEP for the advice and support throughout this process.
