Derry City and Strabane District Council are currently consulting on their draft EQIA for their updated dual language street signage policy. The consultation is open until the 31st July 2024. Amongst the most significant changes proposed, the Council are recommending that the threshold of support for successful applications be lowered from 66% of residents to 15% of residents.
There are also a number of clauses within the policy that we seek to challenge, such as the 3 year ban on re-application for unsuccessful applications. Conradh na Gaeilge has put together a series of recommendations to strengthen the equality screening, impact assessment as well as the policy itself. Those recommendations can be accessed here.
